Is it too early to take a pregnancy test?

I should have my period in five days and i took a test that says it detects 5 days before but it was neg. Do you think it was just too early? Because i have had several pregnancy symptoms should i wait and take another one or just wait til i miss my period? i am really excited and want to know:)
